Throwback Thursday | Sparrow’s Point Bethlehem Steel Plant

Posted on Nov 14, 2013 in Around Town, Throwback Thursday | 3 Comments

Today’s Throwback Thursday is a nod to the old Bethlehem Steel Plant, located in Sparrow’s Point, MD on the Patapsco River.  This plant employed thousands of Baltimore workers for well over one hundred years, my father included.  Here are some images I took a few years ago, while out boating with my dad. At the time, portions of the plant were still in operation, but the plant has since closed and all that stands are its remains.

My father worked for Bethlehem Steel for almost 30 years. Just slightly out of frame on the first image is a pier, where my father said he often took his lunch break. Not a bad view… eh?

I think it’s so sad that such a huge employer had to shut down. But these images are both beautiful and a little spooky. The reflection is stunning.
