Throwback Thursday: Before Instagram… Toy Camera Photography

Posted on Oct 31, 2013 in Art?, Throwback Thursday, Toying Around | 8 Comments

This week’s Throwback Thursday  post is dedicated to the Holga, or the Diana, or to lomography. You know, before Instagram there was the real deal. You didn’t just take ten quick photos, pick the best one, run some filters through it and post for your friends to see in an instant. No, there was a sweet roll of 120 in a plastic body with an even cheaper plastic lens. You loaded your film, electrical taped your camera shut and hoped for the best. Then, after a few weeks of taking one image here… one image there… you loaded your film into a Patterson tank, swished some chemicals around and waited to see what would appear.

Well, back in the fall of 2006, this is what appeared.

Shot in with a Holga, some electric tape and a roll of Ilford HP5 120

I would love to get creative and try some different formats. If only there was more time in the day for a wedding photographer ;)

Spooky! I’ve made a pinhole camera and shot with film cameras from crappy 35mm to high end 645s, but I have never used a Holga! I really want to get one!

I love looking back at my old images from high school! I didn’t know as much technically as I do now and my camera was super old, but I love seeing what I was feeling and thinking as an artist at that time!
