This summer & fall have been so busy, and so wonderful, that it just dawned on me that I haven’t shared much from this year! Sadly, I’ve also been taking my “real” camera out a bit less and using my iPhone a bit more. Hopefully I won’t looked back at Simon’s sixth year and wish that I had taken more photos. But, today I was going through some images in my Lightroom catalog and I came across these sweet moments between Simon and our eldest cat, Perry the Bug; also known as P. Alfred Bug; also known as P-Bug.

Jimmy and I adopted Perry, from the Maryland SPCA, when he was a kitten, just about 15 years ago! It’s crazy to think of how long ago that was and just how old our dapper little guy is getting. We named him Perry, after my college photography instructor, and he quickly gained the nickname “Perry the Bug”.  Six years ago, when we first brought Simon home from the hospital, we wondered how our old cats, 10 & 9 at the time, were going to accept this new squiggly little crying machine. But our kitties (and our old dogs) all instantly fell in love with Simon, as much as we did. They have always stood guard over him, and put up with his loud cries, throwing toys and too-rough toddler hands.

Since Simon couldn’t say “Perry”, Perry the Bug quickly became P. Bug and these two have been inseparable, ever since. This kitty follows Simon all through the house and it is never surprising to see him wearing a hat, or cape, or bow tie, while he serves as Simon’s sidekick, during their imaginary adventures. I don’t know how much longer we will have P. Alfred Bug in our lives, but I know that Simon wishes he could live forever. I love seeing the bond between these two, and I’m certainly glad I took a few minutes to dig out the camera and capture these images.

I know that one day, Simon will cherish them as much as I do.
