Project 52 Photography Challenge | 5/52: Small

Posted on Feb 5, 2015 in Art?, Project 52 | 12 Comments

Well, here we are at week 5 of the Project 52 Photography Challenge. I am already finding that I am approaching the assignments a bit differently each week, and starting to flex my creative muscles a bit more. I have also found that I am allowing this project to become a bit more personal than I anticipated. I’ve enjoyed looking at all of the stunning images my fellow photographers have posted and I’m really curious to see where this photography challenge will end up taking me over the next 47 weeks!

Project 52 Photography Challenge | 5/52: Small

This week’s theme is “small”. Unlike last week, I had to think pretty hard about what I wanted to photograph. I thought of taking ‘small’ in a more literal direction, and just finding something small in size to photograph. Then, I thought about photographing small moments or something to represent the times when I feel small, in the scheme of life. However, I realized that what I really wanted to photograph was something that seems small, but in reality has tremendous importance. Enormous meaning. Immense value.

This is a ring that I wear daily. I sleep with it. I shower with it. And while it is too small for my finger, no matter the occasion, it is around my neck. This ring represents someone, who was a very large part of my life and was with me through some of my darkest times. And while he is no longer here, I am grateful that I am able to carry a reminder of him with me, everyday.

Sometimes things just appear to be small…

engraved ringI hope you are enjoying the Project 52 Photography Challenge, so far. I know that I am really enjoying the process and looking forward to seeing next week’s theme. Do you have something that seems small to others, but has big meaning for you?

wow, that’s really moving. I also have a necklace I wear that was given to me by my mother. I wear it everyday, it makes me feel at home and like she is near, even though she on completely different continent . :)

This is so special, Jennifer!! I have a tiny carved and hand painted wooden robin’s egg that my parents gave me as a gift when I was just a few years old. For some reason, that small item has held a special place in my heart for many years. I look forward to seeing what the rest of your project brings!!

Ruth, that is the challenging, yet fun part! I’ve joined up with several other photographers that are participating in the challenge and we are given a new theme to interpret each week. I’m really starting to have fun with this challenge!
