Fort Howard Park: Hyalophora Cecropia Caterpillar

Posted on Sep 18, 2013 in Around Town, The Smuteks | 8 Comments

As summer comes to a close, and crisp fall air brings out the hoodies, the family and I have been trying to soak up every last ounce of time outside. During one of our family adventures at Fort Howard Park, we came across this not-so-little guy. After consulting some friends, and the great wise owl known as Google, we determined that he is a hyalophora cecropia caterpillar. Not only is he an incredibly interesting looking caterpillar, but he will grow into the most amazing looking moth. I sure hope to see one in a few weeks!

He also made a tasty snack.

Okay, not really. *no caterpillars were harmed in the making of this post*

Hahaha “Great wise owl” google. He looks prickly. My step brother in law saw one similar the other day and got stung by it and his whole hand swelled up. Not fun.
