5 Day Black & White Photo Challenge | Day 2
As I mentioned yesterday, Grace & Elegance Photography challenged me to participate in the 5 day, Black & White Photo Challenge. It is certainly a fun challenge and I’ve enjoyed searching the hastag #5daybwchallenge and seeing all of the fun and creative images that people have taken. It was tempting to use client work, as who doesn’t love seeing a stunning bride with rich black & grey tones? But, I decided to dig into the archives and share some older, personal images. Yesterday was of my son, Simon, but from here on out, I will not be posting portraits.
Today’s post does include people though.
Day 2: In 2009, Dundalk, MD suffered a water-main break which flooded several homes throughout the neighborhood. Sadly, many of the homes had just recovered from the floods that resulted from hurricane Isabel in 2003. When the flood first happened, I grabbed my camera and my boots (which did me no good in the waist-deep water) and drove to the area to photograph the damage. I was invited into people’s yards, homes and a little bit of their lives as they shared how they survived the hurricane, what they had lost, and what they hoped to salvage from this flood.
This is one of the last images I took that day.
Here is a family waiting for the flood waters to recede from the roof of their home.
Are you participating in the 5 day B&W challenge? I’d love to see your images!
